Start your season with this epic Pacific Northwest spring classic at the coast. This gravel cycling event showcases the raw beauty of ancient Siuslaw National Forests and is geared towards the enthusiast cyclist looking for a well-marked and supported event. A good day of gravel riding with friends amid an enchanting forest is in store on the Oregon Coast.

Staging from the charming town of Waldport, Oregon, our meticulously crafted routes consist of a perfect blend of 65% unpaved logging roads (which happen to be our absolute favorite, by the way!) and 35% smooth pavement. Brace yourself for an extraordinary adventure as you immerse yourself in the breathtaking beauty that gets better with every turn.

Take on the 60-mile Abomination or the 37-mile Son of Abomination route. There’s also the opportunity to make it a double-header weekend with the West Coast Gravel event on Sunday in Yachats, only 8.5 miles south. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to embrace the true essence of spring in the Pacific Northwest. Join us and let the magic of this coastal gem leave an indelible mark on your cycling experience.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

WELL-STOCKED AID STATIONS

We love to keep you rolling and with two fully-stocked aid stations for the shorter loop and three for the longer loop, we don’t stop at PB and J sandwiches. Look for Hammer Nutrition supplies along with a host of salty, savory, and sweet offerings at all aid stations, plus mechanical support.

THE SWAG

We are not quite sure you can see the socks on the rider above, but they are the DeFeet Merino Wool socks, which are the best socks PERIOD for your spring cycling season. We love them so much we give you a pair. We also have custom Oregon Coast Gravel Epic shirts and trucker hats for sale and include a Hammer Nutrition bag with supplies.

COMPETING WITH YOUR FRIENDS

We want everyone to have a quality time, whether you’re racing against your rival from the previous season or riding with friends. With 10 age groups and 2 routes, we’ll see many of you on the podium. And if you aren’t setting your sights on the podium, you’ll get to spend even more time enjoying the epic scenery.

POST RIDE FOOD

We were going to place a picture of a burrito or brisket or some local seafood that you can use your $12 food voucher on, but we opted to show more delicious gravel instead. However, we will tell you that you or your traveling partner can use your voucher either on-site at our two food trucks or locally in Waldport or Yachats Friday through Sunday at select establishments.

  • SAFETY

Traffic and Cars, loose corners, Stop Signs, Dogs, Elk, and other things we can or can't control. Rules of the road at all times from the start to the finish!

We have an excellent track record at the Oregon Coast Gravel Epic, with only a few spills that required EMS.

You are our #1 concern, and with that being said, we have over 12 Ham Radio Operators from the Lincoln County Auxillary Communication Service on course to attempt to break through the hills and revenues of the Siuslaw National Forest.

We have first aid on hand at the finish and on course within an hour in most cases, we can get to you with dispatch from Waldport or Yachats area fire who participate in this event.

This event has a high traffic 55MPH zone on Yachats River Rd on your way to Aid 3. We suggest a taillight and to always be aware to yield to traffic for your safety and the safety of the local residents

Please remember that the roads may have an official or emergency vehicle on the course, so stay alert to your surroundings and ride safely!

Rules of the road information from Oregon.gov LINK

The usual way a crash goes is:

Riders are coming into the lap point or aid station and telling race personnel that someone is messed up and not moving or holding an arm or knee. The next rider says the person is sitting up, followed by the next person saying he/she is on their bike, then riders say nothing as this person is OK and comes to the aid station to get a ride out or continues.

Now that's the normal situation, in the case of an accident that appears to be dangerous, please get the rider's plate # to report to official race personnel the on-course and approximate distance to.

Please let us know if you need to seek medical attention beyond a scrape at the finish area, and if you do DNF (Did not Finish) please report your plate number to the scoring officials and do not cross the finish line.

Helmets are required anytime you are on your bike at this event. Please download the route to your GPS or smartphone.

    Event Director

  • ROUTE CONDITIONS

Damp possibly to amazing traction in the spring. During the week it may rain, so be prepared!

70% of the time it has been dry to a slight drizzle with temperatures 55-60 at the start.

38MM Tires Minimum recommended but not required. Know your ability to brake!

Please know when the course is wet, the moss and center of all paved sections can be slick but manageable.

Prepare for anything with your gear choices for 37 or 60 Miles! The Gravel is 3/4 inch and larger for 65% of the course.

Some areas are smooth but have moss and pine needles and some potholes that can be slick if you veer off the established track.

Please use our drop bag service for aid 2 or 3 if the weather is poor or you have a special diet! Email us if you need more help on how to prepare!
